We couldn’t build affordable housing without your help!
Habitat for Humanity of Washington County is a volunteer based, donation
driven organization. We rely on contributions from local businesses,
individuals, religious and civic organizations. Homes are
primarily funded by contributions of money and materials.
Funds donated by generous organizations and individuals are not only
used now, but are also an investment in future Habitat houses.
Payments from homeowners on their no-profit, no-interest loans are placed
in a local fund for Humanity that is used to build more homes. By
donating to Habitat you are ensuring decent housing not only for today, but
for future generations!

Tax Credits - CITC for Maryland Residents &
Businesses
Your monetary donation to Habitat between $500 and $5000 could
very easily qualify you for a Maryland State Tax Credit. In
partnership with the Maryland Department of Housing and Community
Development (DCHD) Habitat is able to offer Maryland residents and
businessess based in Maryland a unique opportunity to contribute to a
neighborhood revitalization effort and receive benefits in the form of tax
credits.
Tax credits work in conjunction with tax deduction and are
applied directly to your bottom line State tax owed thereby reducing the
amount of tax you are required to pay. Monetary donations
between $500 and $5000 may be eligible for up to a 50% tax credit. In other
words, you can reduce dollar for dollar your State of Maryland taxes
owed.
Habitat has been awarded allocations of State tax credits to be
used as incentives to attract donations from individuals and businesses
that have Maryland tax liabilities. Businesses and
individuals that make qualified donations to the program can earn tax
credits equal to 50% of the value. These credits are in
addition to the deductions on both Federal and State taxes that may
be taken regarding charitable contributions.

Land Donations
Since land is the single most expensive item in a Habitat home, finding
land is a vital priority for us. Here in Washington County, the costs
and challenges are increasing sharply as the price of land
skyrockets. Here are ways you can help:
-
Full land donation. Turn
vacant land into a home for a deserving family – and
take a tax deduction for you (see your tax
advisor)!
-
Partial donation. Habitat
pays a percentage of the value of the land and you
donate the remaining value which is tax
deductible (see your tax advisor).
-
Rehab house donation. No
time for a rehab house? Habitat also considers
donations or purchases of houses that need rehab
work.
-
Developers. Partner with Habitat
on a “mixed income” development, which blends
market-rate and Habitat homes.
-
Spread the word! Tell
friends and associates that Habitat acquires vacant
land and houses.

Cars for Homes
This program provides an easy and convenient way for individuals or
groups to help break the cycle of poverty and homelessness. When you
make a vehicle donation through Habitat for Humanity International and 100%
of the proceeds come back to Washington County.
Donations of cars, trucks, boats, recreational vehicles, motorcycles, or
other motorized vehicles will generate income to assist us in our
affordable housing ministry. All vehicles must have proper title
information. The vehicle need not run but you will need to explain
its condition. Should the cost of transporting and repairing the
vehicle exceed its auction value, we cannot accept the donation.
Your vehicle donation may be eligible for tax deduction purposes if you
itemize on your tax return. Consult your tax advisor or the Internal
Revenue Service to determine deductibility of the donation.

Honor/Memorial Gifts
We are happy to accept donations through gifts in honor or memory of
loved ones. An acknowledgement card will be sent to the individual
and the family informing them of your gift.
Celebration Gifts
As you plan gifts for family and friends this year, consider a gift that
keeps on giving long after the wedding, anniversary, birthday, graduation,
holiday, or other special event. Upon receipt of your contribution,
we will send an acknowledgement card indicating that you have made a gift
to Habitat for Humanity of Washington County in honor of the person you are
celebrating. Be sure to include the name and address of the person
who will receive the card. If you would like to make a celebration
gift via credit card or need further information, contact us at
301-791-9009 ext. 12.
Material/Services (In-Kind)
Donations of building materials, equipment, and professional labor are
key to Habitat’s ability to keep the cost of our affordable homes as low as
possible. Several area businesses partner with Habitat by
providing donated building materials or labor. This is a great way to
make a difference while receiving a tax deduction for your gift (see your
tax advisor).
